Information about villa
In the case of the villa of Josef Bratmann, we are not dealing with a villa in the most precise sense of the word, but rather a building used both as a residence and commercial premises. The Bratmann villa is literally a building that pushes the boundaries, while its composition of masses oscillates between the principles of the Renaissance and the Baroque. Nonetheless, it is clearly one of the earliest instances of Central European Secessionism, authored by Hubert Gessner, a pupil of Otto Wagner at the academy in Vienna. Post-war adaptations as a children’s crèche damaged the courtyard and rear facades, as well as destroying its winter garden.
