Architect: Dušan Jurkovič
1900 - 1901
The villa of Rudolf Bartelmus dates from the creative period of its architect, Dušan Jurkovič, that began immediately after completion of the Pustevny skiing complex atop the Moravian peak of Radhošť. Entirely of wood, the villa is based on a plinth of coarsely dressed local marl. Jurkovič was a great admirer of the wooden folk architecture of the Carpathians, and used many of its decorative motifs, such as the overhanging beams. The articulated roofline also reveals his knowledge of the wooden Greek Catholic churches in eastern Slovakia. Even today, the building retains its original character.
